4 Pro Tips for selecting your baseball tour
Our managing partner Doug Lawson is in his 13th season of planning baseball tours and helping guests select their trips. He has put together his Top 4 Pro Tips based on his extensive experience in the baseball travel industry. Here they are!
1. The itinerary
Once you decide on the geographic area you want to visit, check out the itineraries for each tour company. Use an online map to see if the tour itinerary efficiently goes from city to city. Daily motor coach trips of 4-6 hours (or more) can be grueling, and do not give you the opportunity to really enjoy the tour. Grand Slam Baseball Tours itineraries are crafted to reduce the daily travel times, and give our guests plenty of time to enjoy the tour and the cities we visit. We include flights on some of our tours to lessen travel times.
2. The game seats
Decide on the kind of seats you would like to have at the games. Many guests will be visiting the ballparks on the tour for the first and last time. At Grand Slam Baseball Tours, we think it is important to give our guests the best game experience possible. That is why we provide premium game seats at every ballpark. Premium seats include lower level infield seats, infield club seats, or better. Some other tour operators provide similar seats, but most tour companies purchase “group” seats that may be down the line in the outfield, or in the upper decks. While that may make their tours somewhat less expensive, it does not provide the same Premier Baseball Tour experience as GSBT.
3. The Hotels
Ask about the kind of hotels the tour group will stay in, and where they are located. Location and quality of the hotels are important aspects of an enjoyable tour experience. Grand Slam Baseball Tours books the best 4-5 star hotels in prime locations in each city. Many tour companies do not book accommodations in the city centers or near the ballparks. Those tour groups stay in 3 star hotels that are near airports or on the outskirts of town. Those kind of locations do not give tour attendees the opportunity to enjoy all that the MLB cities have to offer. Rest assured that a Premier Baseball Tour with GSBT would include the finest of accommodations in top rated hotels.
4. The Extras
Take a look at the “extras” on the tour. For instance, our tours provide daily breakfast, and other local sightseeing attractions like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, or an architectural boat tour in Chicago. We even have plans to enjoy dinner in the Dodger Stadium Club before our game in LA on the West Coast Tour. Every company is a little different, so make sure you compare and decide what “extras” you would enjoy.
